Extra Curriculum

Camps and Excursions

Experiences and activities outside the classroom are very enriching for both the students and teachers alike. Camps are held each year for Years 5 and 6 and then again in Year 10. Short excursions to places around the community, to support class studies, are also encouraged for all year levels. See RLCB Camping Policy and Procedure.

Persuasive Speaking Competition

Throughout Term Three, Year 6 students, use the persuasive speaking genre for their focus in English. The culminating activity for their learning is to prepare and present a three minute speech on a topic of their own choice.

Class presentations are judged and three students from Year 6 are selected to represent Redeemer in the Cluster Speaking Competition against St Josephs’ Catholic Primary School and Thangool State School. Three winners from this competition are selected to compete in the final level; the Callide Dawson Speaking Competition.

Whole of College Performance

The Arts and providing opportunities for students to develop performance confidence is highly valued in our community. As a whole of college activity, each year, every student participates in the school’s performance.

Group Speaking – Speech and Drama Eisteddfod

In Term Two, all classes participate in the Group Speaking section of the Biloela Speech and Drama Eisteddfod as a context to focus on the poetry genre and an opportunity to further developing speaking skills and performance confidence.

PALs (Pupils Adopting and Loving Seniors)

Year 7 students participate in a service program call PALs. At the beginning of the year students are matched with seniors from Wahroonga Retirement Village. They are encouraged to write to them regularly and then as a class visit their PALs each term. During the visits activities vary from entertaining the residents to participating in the famous Bocce play off.

Dance and Cheer

Students in Primary and Secondary School can participate in Dance and Cheer. Auditions are held in Term Four of each year with dance and cheer instruction and practice held before and after school. Our Dance and Cheer coach, Mrs Kylie Leonard, is world class.
